Knights of Alba Amsterdam

Welcome to the Dutch delegation Knights of Alba

The Dutch delegation was founded in Amsterdam in 2022 and is a nationwide association of currently comprising 51 Knights. It forms part of the prestigious Ordine dei Cavalieri del Tartufo e dei Vini di Alba. The Ordine is based near Alba at its magnificent headquarters, Castello Grinzane Cavour, situated on a hilltop and surrounded by vineyards. 

Since 2019, the Ruling Council of the Ordine dei Cavalieri del Tartufo e dei Vini di Alba has been led by Gran Maestro Tomaso Zanoletti. The Ordine is represented by more than 19 delegations in 13 countries across four continents.  www.cavalierideltartufo.it 

The Dutch delegation is an association of ambassadors for Piemontese wine and gastronomy. It has no commercial purpose; rather, it aims to deepen its members' practical and theoretical knowledge of the wines of the Alba region, not least through their enjoyment. Friendship, loyalty and a shared passion for the Piemontese culture, traditions, gastronomy and wines lie at the heart of the Dutch delegation. 

Activities

The Dutch delegation organises a variety of annual events throughout the country, including tastings, dinners. Once a year, it organises a technical wine trip to Piedmont, visiting talented winemakers. A particular highlight is the participation of Dutch Knights in a thematic Chapter at the headquartes of the Ordine, Castello Grinzane Cavour. On one such accasion, the Dutch delegation presented white and red tulips, symbolising the two principal colours of the coat of arms of Alba and strengthening the bonds of friendship with the Knights of Alba from across the world.   

These gatherings provide an opportunity to enjoy fine wines and local gastronomy in convivial company. They also foster many international contacts, including with winemakers, merchants, wine recency writers and brokers.

The members of the Dutch delegation come from a wide range of professions and backgrounds and from all parts of The Netherlands. During a Chapter, a limited number of new Knights may be inducted, provided that they have previously participated in events of the Delegation. Such inductions take place in the presence of a Maestro from the Ruling Council. 

The Board of the Dutch delegation consists of five dedicated members and has been led since 2025 by Maestro Wouter Butzelaar.
